Thushara’s Scrum project …

Hi everyone - We have a listener and friend in Sri Lanka that has a great blog, Projectized, who recently wrote about a Scrum “practice” project (Easy Scrum -2) she did recently with her team. This is a great way to introduce Agile concepts to your team - using new concepts and a familiar product deliverable to illustrate how successful Agile methods, in Thushara’s case, Scrum, can be!  It’s really a great blog entry and I had fun learning about Vesak Lanterns!  Check it out when you have the time!

Though not as interesting as a rugby scrum, the agile Scrum method is fun nonetheless. I am one of the guinea pigs on Thushara’s Vesak Lantern session, and it turned out this guinea pig loved it.

Scrum really shifts the project management perspective right onto the shoulders of the developers (or lantern builders) and yet makes them enjoy the weight. It allows the developers take decisions for a change. Since we know our own strengths and weaknesses we’re able to allocate our knowledge and expertise appropriately, and we have the freedom to volunteer for whatever tasks we like…

We’re currently using Scrum for an R&D project that we’re doing, at really helps us keeping it organized.

Bouquet: Developers don’t feel stressed out at the end, and are happy to be their own bosses for a change.

Brickbat: Project Managers get more free time, since most of their work is resting on the developers’ shoulders (conspiracy anyone ? :)
